Changing the internal hard disk of macbook pro 17 inches

(As usual, I cannot be responsible for any damage to your machines when you will experiment the following tutorial.)

His owner found his hard disk to small. So the day he bought, he ask me to place a 500 giga hard disk in his MacBook pro.

1)

The new one on the MacBook Pro.

2)

We shutdown the beast and deconnect it from sector.
Next, put the battery away. Ideally, it is better to do this with the MacBook Pro on a fabric to preserve coating.

3)

On this face, it is three series of screws. The serie is better seen on next picture.

4)

It is careful to manage the screws in a compartimented box progressively. I do not, because it is easyer than changing in an iBook.

5)

Now, the two screws hidden by the memory's lid.

6)

Next, the sides .

7)

They are very little.

8)

9)

10)

Warning, macke attention when opening, at cable and his connector maintained with scotch.

11)

The MacBook Pro and the keyboard/trackpad turn over.
The connector and cable .

12)

To change the hard disk, we must remove the two screws .

13)

We must this card put out to preserve his cable. Next raise the disk by the right side to disengage the two left screws. Now to lift hard disk for remowing the scotch .

14)

The two left screws .

15)

The scotch who maintain the SATA connetcor .

16)

No, remove the screws on the older and place it on the new one.

As usual, to reassemble, do the same in reverse ;-)

17)

The new one in place, 500 gigas, mioum ;)

18)

There is "thread-locker" (thanks Dan), "freinfilet" (in french) on everey screws, to maintain it. So it is a good idea to put also, or, if you do not have nail varnish at default.

The tools:

  1. compartimented box for the screws (a simlple lid is ok, they are verry differents)
  2. frein filet or, at default, nail varnish,
  3. screwdriver torx 7
  4. screwdriver philips 00,

Time, between 1/2 et 1 hour according toi ability!
